What is Botox?

Botox (Botulinum Toxin A) is a neurotoxin which is produced by the bacteria Clostridum Botulinum, which is purified for clinical and cosmetic use.

Treatment Procedure

The prescription product (Botox™) is injected using a disposable micro needle.  The solution is injected very precisely into specific muscles.  The number of injection sites are dependent on what areas of the face require treatment.

When Should I Start Anti - Wrinkle Treatment?

Dynamic wrinkles are those that appear when you contract the facial muscles during expression.  Static wrinkles are those that are there even when the face isn't moving.  Everyone ages differently due to genetics and lifestyle, we recommend early preventative treatment as static lines are much harder to treat.  If you can start to see lines and wrinkles with movement that you would rather not see this is the time to consider booking an appointment.

How Does it Work?

Botox blocks the signals that the brain sends to the muscles it is injected into; temporarily preventing them from contracting, meaning that when your facial expression changes the overlying skin appears smoother and unwrinkled. Untreated muscles in the face work as normal allowing a normal range of expression.

Aftercare

Botox can take up to 14 days to take full effect.  Sometimes clients may require a top up for perfect results.  Anti wrinkle injections last between 3-6 months depending on the individual.  We advise you not to drink alcohol, engage in vigorous activity & avoid direct heat for 24 hours post treatment.  Full aftercare advice is given at your appointment.

Who Can't Have Botox?

Botox isn't suitable for everyone.  You cannot have anti wrinkle treatments if you;  are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18 years of age, have a history of anaphylactic shock, have had laser treatment or chemical skin peels in the 6 weeks prior, have implants close to the region to be injected, have a local infection at or close to the injection site, have an egg allergy.
